Pakistan reports the third case of polio of 2025 in the Sindh

Pakistan confirmed its third case of type 1 wild polio virus in 2025, the last case reported in the district of Larkana in the Sindh province.

This marks the second case of Polio in the Sindh this year, bearing the total number of cases in the province for two, while Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa reported a case, said Express News.

According to the polio eradication program, 74 cases of polio were reported across the country in 2024, with the greatest number of Balutchistan (27 cases), followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (22 cases), Sindh (23 cases) and one from Punjab and Islamabad.

The first national polio campaign of 2025, due from February 3 to 9, successfully achieved 99% of its objectives, vaccinating more than 45 million children against the virus.

Currently, Pakistan is in the middle of its second cycle of catch -up activities, focusing on the administration of EPI antigens to children under the age of five.

In accordance with the Pakistan Polio program, a fractional campaign of Polio IPV-OPV is launched in the Quetta and Karachi division on February 20 and 22, aimed at vaccinating around 1 million children.
