Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have agreed to establish a joint committee to produce songs, films and documentaries, as part of the efforts to strengthen the links of the media industry.
The announcement was made Wednesday following a meeting between the Minister of Information, Ataullah Tarar and the Minister of Media of Saudi Arabia Salman Al-Dossary in Riyadh, during the fourth edition of the Media Forum Saudi.
The forum, which takes place from Wednesday to Friday, brings together more than 200 media professionals, innovators and opinion leaders from around the world. This year’s theme is “the media in an evolving world”.
The newly agreed joint committee will focus on collaborative productions, including songs, films and documentaries. The ministers also discussed the improvement of cooperation in other sectors, such as exchanges of journalists and training programs.
The meeting also stressed the importance of cooperation to combat disinformation and propaganda. Tarar has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to support the vision of Saudi Arabia 2030, which aims to diversify the kingdom’s economy and reduce its dependence on oil.
He stressed that Pakistan’s relationship with Saudi Arabia was playing towards a stronger economic partnership, with Saudi Arabia playing a key role in the development of Pakistan.
Al-Dossary recognized the contributions of Pakistani expatriates in the development of Saudi Arabia, noting that the promotion of cooperation in all sectors, including information, was a priority for the Kingdom.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have long been close regional partners and economic allies. In October 2024, the two countries signed 34 agreements worth 2.8 billion dollars to further increase their cooperation.
The kingdom is home to more than 2.7 million Pakistani expatriates, making it the main destination for funding from funds sent to Pakistan.
