Pakistan Ambassador to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, warned that India’s actions constitute “serious threats” of peace and stability in South Asia, during a briefing to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) of ambassadors in New York.

In a press release published by the Pakistani mission to the UN, Ambassador Ahmad described the conduct of India as “very provocative, politically motivated and irresponsible”. He underlined the severity of the regional situation, urging the Member States to take note of the posture of India and its implications for long -term peace.

The organization of the envoys of Islamic cooperation (OIC) expressed unanimous support and solidarity with Pakistan, reiterating their commitment to the principles of peace and justice.

The envoys underlined the need for de-escalation by diplomatic means, calling for a renewed emphasis on the resolution of fundamental problems at the heart of Indian-Pakistani tensions, in particular the long-standing dispute on Jammu-et-Cachemire.

They reaffirmed the importance of resolving the question in accordance with the resolutions and relevant decisions of the United Nations Security Council and the decisions of the OIC, arguing for a fair and lasting regulation.

The meeting was part of the continuous diplomatic awareness of Pakistan to underline what it considers as a deterioration of the security environment in the region due to the actions of India.
