Pakistan to attend Moscow format on discussions on Afghanistan

Muhammad Sadiq Khan, Pakistan special representative on Afghanistan and also special assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) and the Minister of State, left for Moscow on Sunday to participate in high -level discussions on Afghanistan.

Representatives of Iran, China and Russia will participate in the quadrilateral consultation. Sadiq must lead the Pakistan delegation to the 17th “Moscow format” in Afghanistan, starting tomorrow (Tuesday). The session should cover security, the fight against terrorism, the prevention of drug trafficking and the problems of Afghan refugees.

According to diplomatic sources, Pakistan should call on the international community to increase humanitarian aid for Afghanistan.

The joint opposition by the four countries will be reiterated against the creation of foreign military bases in Afghanistan.

Pakistan will raise the issue of terrorists who find security shelters on Afghan soil and there will be a request to end recruitment, the supply of weapons and the financing of Afghanistan terrorists.

For the first time, Afghanistan will be officially welcomed as a member country in this format and the Minister of Affairs of Afghanistan, Amir Khan Muttaqi, is expected to attend.

The format of Moscow on Afghanistan was created in April 2017. It united 11 countries which expressed their interest in a colony in Afghanistan – Afghanistan itself, Russia, China, Iran, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Tadjikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenist.
