Religious Affairs Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain on Wednesday met with Turkish Ambassador Irfan Nazir Oglu to explore possibilities of providing modern technical education and increasing employment opportunities for skilled Pakistani workers in Turkey, according to a press release from the ministry.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed proposals related to religious harmony, respect for humanity and cooperation in promoting a skilled workforce.
The Turkish Ambassador reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to increasing employment opportunities for Pakistani workers and improving technical training in Pakistan.
“Both countries share similar positions on regional and global issues and consistently support each other on international platforms,” Hussain said.
The ambassador expressed condolences over the death of Pakistanis in the recent boat tragedy in Morocco and highlighted Turkiye’s efforts to provide machinery to Pakistani industries and boost joint investments.
Last year, 600,000 Pakistanis went abroad to work, and overseas remittances hit a record $3.1 billion by December 2024. Both sides agreed that the Improving banking channels between Pakistan and Turkey is key to boosting trade, which both countries aim to increase to $5 billion. .
The meeting concluded with commitments to strengthen efforts against extremism, promote interfaith harmony and strengthen bilateral cooperation in the areas of education and technical training.
