Lahore:

The American Consul General Lahore Kristin K Hawkins said that Pakistan and the United States share a long-standing and sustainable relationship, cooperation developing between the sectors, in particular agriculture, trade, education and cultural preservation.

In an exclusive interview with NewsHawkins said agricultural experts from the two countries work jointly to meet the agricultural challenges faced in southern Punjab and the United States. She added that bilateral programs in areas such as trade and agriculture can further strengthen mutual support.

“We focus on providing modern educational opportunities to young people in Pakistan,” said Hawkins. She underlined the success of the English access micro-procedure program, launched in 2004, which benefited more than 27,000 Pakistani students, including 6,000 from Punjab.

“These students contribute to a safer and more prosperous future for both nations,” she said. Over the past two years, the program has expanded, reaching more than 1,000 new students in Punjab, with 400 students from cities in southern Punjab.

Answering a question about cultural initiatives Hawkins said the United States had supported nearly 35 cultural preservation projects in Pakistan under the Cultural Preservation Fund (AFCP). Notable efforts include the conservation of historic monuments such as Ghanta Ghar de Multan and local sanctuaries.

She also mentioned the establishment of 19 corners of Lincoln through Pakistan to give students access to modern technology, including 3D printing, digital libraries and research journals, offering access to more than 40,000 learned articles.

These centers also provide advice on higher education opportunities in the United States, while promoting technology and cultural exchanges.

“In the south of Punjab, Lincoln Corners was created at Bahauddin Zakariya University in Multan and the University of Education in Vehari,” she said.

Hawkins has reiterated the commitment of the United States to promote educational and cultural cooperation, in particular for the empowerment of young people in poorly served regions.
