Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed the deep concern of Pakistan on Sunday in the face of the rise in tensions in South Asia, following the Pahalgam incident in India, during a telephone conversation with his Malaysian counterpart, Dato ‘Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Prime Minister Shehbaz firmly rejected India’s “baseless” attempt to connect Pakistan to the incident, stressing that no evidence had been shared to support allegations. “Pakistan reiterates its offer for an international, transparent, credible and neutral investigation,” he said, adding that Pakistan would host Malaysia’s participation in the investigation.
He stressed that Pakistan had always condemned terrorism in all its forms and played an essential role in global efforts to fight terrorism. “The provocative actions of India distract Pakistan to take up the main security challenges along its western border,” he warned.
The Prime Minister said it was “unthinkable” that Pakistan was involved in such an incident, especially at a time when the country recovers from an economic crisis and works on stability.
The two leaders also discussed the strengthening of the links of Pakistan-Malais, reaffirming their commitment to deepen cooperation in trade, investment and cultural exchanges. Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed his hope to undertake an official visit to Malaysia later this year.
The conversation, said Pakistani officials, underlined the sustainable friendship and the close coordination between the two countries, the two leaders being accepting to remain committed to regional and international issues.
