Pakistan will never accept Indian hegemony, explains Marshal Munnir

Islamabad:

The chief of staff of the army (COAS), Marshal Asim Munir, reaffirmed the firm position of Pakistan on regional sovereignty, affirming that Pakistan will never accept the hegemony of India.

This reiteration of the resolution occurred a few days after Pakistan inflicted a break in India in a military confrontation between the two countries which was triggered by the imprudent and provocative missile strikes of New Delhi on civil infrastructure inside Pakistan.

Speaking during a large-scale special session with vice-chancellors, directors and members of the faculty of various universities, Marshal Munnir highlighted the crucial role of educators in the formation of future generations of the country.

However, the objective of its vast address remained the unshakable position of Pakistan on Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and the larger regional concerns, in particular with India.

“Pakistan will never accept Indian hegemony,” said the army chief, stating a firm line on questions ranging from water rights to cashmere dispute. “Water is the red line of Pakistan, and we will not allow any compromise on this basic right of 240 million Pakistani,” he added.

India has announced “Holding in Repeyance” The Industry Water Treaty (IWT), an agreement negotiated by the World Bank between Islamabad and New Delhi in 1960 to share the water available in the Indus River and its tributaries.

As part of the agreement, Pakistan received the right on three rivers, namely the Indus, Jhelum and Chenab, while India obtained the law on the Ravi, Beas and Sutlej rivers.

Pakistan, which depends strongly on the waters of three rivers attributed to it under ICTI, said that any decision to stop or divert its share of water will be considered as “an act of war” and that it will use the complete spectrum of national power to protect its share of water.
