More than two weeks after President Donald Trump took care of the White House, there has not yet been an official contact between Pakistan and the new administration. Official sources told L’Express PK Press Club on Tuesday that the two countries had been in contact with usual diplomatic channels, but there had been no direct contact with the Trump administration. The lack of direct contact shows that Pakistan is no longer a priority for the new Trump administration. Pakistan was once known as the most ally in the United States and the regular interactions between the two capitals were routine. However, in recent years, things have changed since the new American president does not even speak to Pakistani leaders. The trend was set by former president Joe Biden, who during his four -year term, never spoke to any of the Pakistani Prime Ministers. His Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has also never traveled to Islamabad despite a frequent visit to the region. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif quickly congratulated President Trump for his inauguration. Prime Minister Shehbaz even wrote a letter to Trump, expressing Pakistan’s desire to deepen bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Likewise, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar congratulated his American counterpart Marco Rubio. But the new administration has not yet responded to any of the courtesies extended by Pakistani leaders. Trump administration officials have not yet made an explicit statement on Pakistan, but certain decisions made by the American president have implications for the country. Pakistan was one of the countries that have been affected by President Trump’s executive decree requesting a break in foreign aid. With the exception of Israel and Egypt, the Trump administration suspended foreign aid programs in order to make an exam to determine whether such funding has been aligned with the States Foreign Policy Agenda -Unis. Pakistan hoped that the break was temporary and that the United States would soon resume USAID programs. Trump’s other decision, which has a direct impact on Pakistan, was his executive decree to stop the Afghan refugee settlement program. The new US administration has suspended the special immigration visa visa program and the Afghan refugee admission program for 90 days. Pakistan is currently hosting around 25,000 Afghans, which were to be moved to the United States. All these Afghans worked for the American army and other American entrepreneurs during their campaign in Afghanistan. We were promised visas because their life was in danger under the domination of the Taliban. The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the first time last week revealed that, under the arrangement reached with the Biden administration, the process of relocating all these Afghans was to be completed by September 2025.
