Pakistani sisters drown in the northern national park of Wales

Two Pakistani sisters studied in the United Kingdom have drowned in a tragic incident in Eryri National Park, in the north of Wales, causing shattering and calling for greater clarity.

Hajra Zahid, 29, and Haleema Zahid, 25, both third cycle students in international business at Chester University, were withdrawn from Watkin swimming pools in the Nant Gwynant region last week.

The sisters, from Kahuta near Rawalpindi, arrived in the United Kingdom four months ago and resided in Maltby, Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

A first audience of the investigation held in Dafydd Orwig’s House in Caernarfon confirmed that the two women died due to drowning, as reported by the BBC.

The incident occurred on June 11, when the Northern Wales police received information that a woman had been drawn from the water and that another was still overwhelmed. The two were declared dead on the scene shortly before midnight.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Chester, Professor Eunice Simmons, expressed deep pain, saying that the sisters had “touched the life of many” within the university community.

The Pakistani community in the United Kingdom has also reacted with a shock, with watches and community leaders demanding transparency in the circumstances of deaths.

Female funeral prayers took place Tuesday in northern England, and their body was brought back Wednesday to Pakistan.

Hajra Zahid was married and left behind two young sons, aged six and three.

A local journalist shared her husband’s reaction on X (formerly Twitter), who had asked for a more in -depth investigation from the British government in the tragedy.

The tragedy has also rekindled a meticulous examination on security measures on Watkin’s path, a popular but distant path to the summit of your Wyddfa (Snowdon). The authorities continue to exhort prudence for those who visit mountain pools, especially late during the day.

The investigation was postponed as the surveys continued.
