A convoy of vehicles heading towards Parachinar was attacked again, resulting in the martyrdom of one soldier and the injury of four others. In a retaliatory operation, security forces killed six militants.
The convoy, consisting of 35 vehicles, was on its way to Parachinar when unidentified attackers opened fire, causing the convoy to stop. The attack took place in Kurram district, Express News reported.
According to the Kurram district administration, one security force personnel was killed and four others were injured in the attack. Three vehicles in the convoy were damaged and six militants were killed, with around ten others reportedly injured.
Following the attack, the convoy was redirected to the town of Tal and security forces took control of the area. The local administration and soldiers arrived on the scene to assess the damage.
This was the third convoy heading to Kurram, the previous two convoys having already passed without incident. However, this convoy was attacked.
A few weeks ago, a shooting attack on official vehicles in the province injured the deputy commissioner (DC) of Kurram district, Javed Allah Mehsud.
The incident occurred in Baggan area when unknown assailants opened fire on government vehicles.
According to initial reports, the deputy commissioner was injured and was immediately rushed to Lower Ali Zai Hospital. A police officer was also injured in the attack.
Local authorities have confirmed that DC’s condition is stable and arrangements are being made to transfer him to Peshawar by helicopter for further treatment.
Meanwhile, the process of demolition/dismantling of the bunkers began on Monday. According to the peace agreement, all bunkers will be dismantled by February.
Many residents hope the exercise can restore lasting peace to a region where violent clashes have left hundreds dead in recent months.
The government signed a peace agreement between the two sides in Kurram district to establish law and order. The agreement includes the demolition of all bunkers in the region.
