It opens with a chilling 911 call with a woman’s voice speaking in fear: “He’s going to kill me. He killed everyone else.”
This is the teaser that Paramount Pictures released Primatewhose official trailer will arrive tomorrow.
The film’s synopsis gives some insight into why there is fear in the air. “Returning from college, Lucy reunites with her family, including pet chimpanzee Ben. Ben contracts rabies at a pool party and becomes aggressive. Lucy and her friends barricade themselves in the pool, devising ways to survive the vicious chimpanzee.”
Furthermore, a review in Bloody disgusting also provides a key understanding of the film whose 42-second teaser was released today.
“Ben is practical, spectacularly designed by Millennium FX and performed by movement specialist Miguel Torres Umba,” writes reviewer Meagan Navarro.
“The chimpanzee’s transformation from adorable pet to terrifying monster is the film’s greatest asset, enhanced by chilling shot composition and expert pacing that tests even the most hardened nerves,” she notes.
“The primate may not ultimately impress with its originality, but as an old-fashioned animal attack creature, it’s a fun adrenaline rush,” the reviewer concludes.
Johannes Roberts is the director, he also wrote the screenplay with Ernest Riera and Walter Hamada is the producer. Meanwhile, the film’s cast includes Johnny Sequoyah and Troy Kotsur.
Primate will open in theaters on January 9.
