Rawalpindi:
The Punjab Wildlife Department has applied new license and reproductive costs for private and trade in wild animals and pets, immediately affecting the parrot.
After the new costs, the license to maintain parrots was set at RS1,000. After the announcement of the costs, these parrots disappeared from the markets and were transferred to warehouses for the sale of the black market.
In Rawalpindi, the two markets of birds and animals on Alam Khan Road and Pirwadhai were invited to comply and displayed licenses.
The Rawalpindi Wildlife Department said that the costs for large wild cats and other wild animals such as lions, cheetahs, tigers, large cats, jaguars and pumas have been fixed at 50,000 rupees, while PET parrot costs are RS1,000 and the fee of parrot and commercial license are 10 000 rupees.
According to the ministry, only four species of parrot will be subject to reproduction and corporate license fees. The Alexandrian parrot, the pink rings parakeet, the silver -headed parrot and the plum head parrot.
These four are native local races and became in danger; The measures are intended to support their spread.
Pakistan hosts many species of parrot, but these four are the most important, commercially significant and at risk.
The Alexandrian parrot is the largest and most precious – with a green body, with a red patch on the shoulder and the male wearing a pink pass; Historically ornamental in the royal courts, it is always considered precious.
The ringing of roses or “Mithu” is the parrot that imitates the discourse and is the companion of a child; An adult bird can sell for 25,000 rupees at 50,000 rupees. Age in pink is the most common breed. The male has a black and pink ring on the neck.
Its wild population is quickly decreasing. The gray -headed parrot (Slaty’s head) is less known and lives in the northern hilly regions; His gray head distinguishes him.
In winter, it descends into the valleys and bird lovers write it. The plum head parrot is among the most attractive species – the male with a pink head and the female with a bluish hue; Due to its beauty, it is sold at a high price for bird lovers, and a pair can recover RS15,000 to Rs20,000 on the market.
The greatest threats to these species are illegal hunting and smuggling; Deforestation also contributed to their decline. From now on, after the payment of RS1,000 in crop fees, breeders in Punjab will be issued from licenses.
Although captivity farming increases, the four species subject to the costs have disappeared from the markets.
The fauna department proceeds from raids to locate them, but these parrots have been withdrawn from the Rawalpindi, Lahore and Karachi markets to secret warehouses and are sold in private to owners of trusted pets.
Australian or other imported foreign parrots are not affected by this new regulation.
The rules of the provincial government only apply to local parrot species. The commercial license fees for bird and animal stores have been set at RS30,000 and RS50,000.
The 50,000 RS license includes wild birds and pets. Fayzan Ali, secretary of trade shops for animal and birds of retailers union, said that the company was already in difficulty and that these taxes and costs will depress more trade, which stimulates underground transactions.
He urged the government to perceive only general license fees and effectively tax the company rather than pushing it in secret.
