Islamabad:

The senatorial committee on planning and development ordered the planning commission on Thursday to withdraw the Kalabagh dam from documents and presentations concerning the proposal for the construction of projects.

The Committee met here its president Quratul Ain Marri to the president, to discuss various development projects, water resources, the status of dams and Karachi water problems. The president called into question the construction proposal for the Kalabagh dam, saying that three assemblies had opposed.

The Committee was informed that 15% of the work of the Bhasha Diamer dam and 57.77% of the work of the K-4 project had been completed. The committee highlighted the need to maintain water resources and mitigate the effects of climate change.

The meeting also discussed progress on the dams of Gomal Zam and Darawat. The question of new channels is also under discussion. The Water Resources Secretary told Reunion that water would be withdrawn from the Jhelum river and diverted to Cholistan from Salmaniki’s head works.

On the water crisis in Karachi, the meeting informed that the work of the provincial part of the K-4 project aimed at providing water to the citizens of Karachi would be completed in April 2027. The committee called to guarantee the completion of projects in a timely completion.
