Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has radically reduced match costs for players participating in the next T20 national cup. Tournament players will be paid for match fees of 10,000 PKR (around US $ 35), a 75% drop in the last edition of the same tournament, where players were paid 40,000 PKR match fees.
Since then, the PCB has embarked on costly but necessary stadiums of the stadium, hired – and shortly after, foreign coaches on expensive contracts, as well as five mentors out of 5 million PKR per month each, as well as the organization of a national tournament of a day which increased the price in money for the participants.
An PCB official, however, told Espncricinfo that the decision to reduce match costs so radically for the National T20 Cup was not the result of financial concerns. Instead, the PCB estimates that players’ gain opportunities during the season have increased with more tournaments in the national calendar, including the Champions T20 Cup, which took place in December 2024 (but with only five teams).
The Champions Cup format of five players’ elite teams is reproduced in a 50 and first -class tournament. With a number of players also employed by a department (for tournaments such as the president’s trophy) which pays them a monthly salary, the Council estimates that the drop in match fees did not constitute an overall drop in their income.
The National T20 Cup begins on March 14, with 39 games in three cities: Faisalabad, Lahore and Multan. The final will take place in Faisalabad on March 27. Several Pakistani international crickets will not be able to present, the national team having left for New Zealand for five T20is and three ODI.
