Quetta:
In the midst of increased threats to floods during the current monsoon, the province of Monsastre Management Authority (PDMA) Balouthistan launched an emergency preparation plan on a province level, aimed at protecting life and goods from potential floods and catastrophes related to rain.
Addressing the application, the director general of the PDMA, Jahanzaib Khan, confirmed that the government had activated the authorities for the management of district disasters, autonomized local administrations and stored vital rescue supplies to respond quickly in vulnerable regions.
Khan stressed that the Balutchistan government was fully determined to provide a rapid and effective emergency response in all vulnerable districts. The PDMA and the irrigation service have taken proactive measures to protect the channels and prevent floods in the region, he said.
“In light of the strong recent precipitation and changing weather conditions, the PDMA has activated emergency teams at the district level, chaired by the assistant commissioners (DCS), with the participation of the key line departments,” he said.
Khan said these teams were responsible for directing rescue and rehabilitation efforts during floods or other emergencies. He ensured the immediate release of disaster management funds and promised the deployment of heavy machines belonging to PDMA in districts if necessary.
“The DCS, which also directs the District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMA), power will use funds in an emergency in the event of a crisis,” he said. He confirmed that the CDS had been authorized to hire private machines for rescue operations, while PDMA equipment will also be sent.
Khan stressed that the Balutchistan government had approved an emergency plan on June 12, reflecting its proactive position on preparation for disasters. “The relevant services, including the district administration, the police and others, were invited to stay on alert.
The PDMA advised the DDMAS to coordinate closely with these agencies to ensure the availability of emergency staff, stocks and essential supplies in vulnerable places. To strengthen the preparation, the PDMA has stored emergency items for more than 300 families in each district.
“These items include tents, blankets, grocery products, fuel and machines,” he said, adding that food supplies would be provided in the event of an emergency. “The government will provide all the resources necessary to ensure an effective response in the event of a disaster.”
He underlined the need to ensure the protection of the lives and properties of people while maintaining the effectiveness of the departments and agencies concerned during calamities. He said that the leave of PDMA officials had been canceled and that all the staff were on alert to respond to emergency situations.
