Penn Badgley is thinking about how his identity was involved in his Gossip Girl Character while playing Dan Humphrey in the series.
When he appeared on Alex Cooper Calls his daddy Podcast, the host asked: “You are at the beginning of the twenties, and I feel like many character that you were, you had some sort of parallels. You lived, like, in New York. ”
She continued: “You went out with Blake Lively, you went out with Serena in the series. Do you have the impression of having been able to separate your real work from your reality and to grow in their twenties or if everything had the impression that it was a kind of fusion?”
THE You Star, who played Dan from 2007 to 2012 and dated from Lively from 2007 to 2010, noted that it was a “big question”.
“What is starting to happen when you have been in this only role for a long time, the aspect of fame by being a large part, there is not enough separation for anyone. You are considered that person, you are called their name on the street. You must also constantly be that person at work,” he explained.
He reflected and noted that in their twenties, he “did not have the emotional maturity to understand” or “differentiates” his identity from that of his character.
“What people seemed to think of Dan seemed to be what people thought of me,” he shared. “I didn’t get lost, but it bothered me.”
Penn Badgley played the psychopath and serial killer Joe Goldberg in the Hit Show of Netflix You Since 2018.
