Penn Badgley is getting honest about the impact his wife’s miscarriages had on their marriage.
In a recent conversation on the Totally reserved podcast, to promote his new book, CrushmoreThe 39-year-old actor revealed that his wife, Domino Kirke’s, nearly broke up their marriage with two consecutive miscarriages.
“This kind of loss is very common, and we should – I don’t know if talking about it alone is what we need. We need to at least start by talking about it more.
“And of course, to be clear, I’m talking about miscarriages,” he explained.
Penn added, “They happen all the time, and they can be really, really painful. Well, I would say they’re universally painful. Maybe not everyone is fully allowed to feel that way.”
In his book, Penn recalled a “terrible memory” from this painful period.
“It was our second loss together. A time when we didn’t feel like the cycle was going to break. My wife and I were close to separating as many do after losses like that,” he wrote via People.
“Largely because we felt so isolated in a culture that doesn’t talk about these things much and doesn’t know how to support those going through them. Seeing our baby still in these black and white sound images is a terrible memory that I can’t shake every time we go for an ultrasound now.”
