A formal cochlear implant program was launched at Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) in Peshawar to support children born with hearing impairments, according to Express News. The initiative was introduced by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government in collaboration with Pakistan Bait-Ul-Mal.
The ENT (EAR, Nose and Gorge) team of the HMC has already carried out nine successful cochlear implants as part of the pilot phase.
The procedures, which are addressed to children aged six months and five years, are now offered as part of the flagship flagship card (health card) program, considerably softening the financial burden of families.
Each cochlear implant surgery costs around 2.15 million rupees. This expense will now be covered by a combination of support from Pakistan Bait-Ul-Mal and the Sehat Card Initiative.
In a recent stage, the ENT team, under the supervision of senior health specialists, organized a two -day cochlear implant marathon in HMC, during which nine surgeries were successfully carried out.
The hospital administration welcomed the collective efforts and the dedication of the HMC ENT team, crediting their perseverance as a key engine behind the successful implementation of the program.
