The eminent democrat and former American secretary of transport, Pete Buttigieg, weighed on the debate on transgender athletes who participate in female sports.
During an interview with NPR, Buttigieg recognized the “equity problems” in the debate.
“Around sports, … I think most reasonable people would recognize that there are serious equity problems if you deal with it as unimportant when a trans athlete wants to participate in female sports,” said Buttigieg.

The Democrat then agreed that the parents who complained of the trans athletes who compete against their daughters “have a case”. However, Buttigieg also argued that politicians should not dictate politics to determine if men can compete in female and girls sports.
“And that is why I think these decisions should be in the hands of sports leagues and school councils and not politicians … in Washington trying to use it as a political pawn,” said Buttigieg.
How transgender in sports changed the 2024 elections and sparked a national counterculture
“The failures are different from weightlifting, and weightlifting is different from volleyball and the college is different from the Olympic Games. This is exactly why I think we should not be big on this subject as politicians. We should authorize communities and organizations and schools to make the right decisions.”
The Democrats, including former President Joe Biden, pleaded for political changes that would allow athletes to compete in female and girls sports. Biden spent an executive decree on his first day in power in January 2021 which said “children should be able to learn without worrying about whether they will be denied access to the toilets, locker rooms or school sports.”
The Democrats of Congress also tried to adopt the declaration of transgender rights and the equality law, which would both have enabled the Trans athletes to compete in girls and female sports.
President Donald Trump signed the “states of the exploitation of men of women’s sport” on February 5 and 27 states adopted their own laws to ensure similar restrictions.
Buttigieg joins several other eminent media democrats and experts who have spoken of allowing men to compete with women, notably the governor of California Gavin Newsom; The representative Seth Moulton, D-Mass.; and the HBO Bill Maher host.
An April New York Times report says Biden did not agree with Trans athletes with female and girls sports.
“According to a number of former officials from the Biden administration, there has been a debate that flows within the administration to find out if these title IX protections should extend to sports,” Times reported. “One side … argued that there was no legal difference between letting the students Trans use bathrooms that align themselves with their gender identity and leaving trans students to play in the sports teams who align themselves with their gender identity.”
However, Biden was “on the other side … who thought that the competitive and a zero nature of the sports made them different from the bathrooms – that some transgender athletes would appreciate the unjust physical advantages compared to women. More importantly, one of the officials that held this point of view was Biden himself.”
A New York Times / Ipsos survey Found that the vast majority of Americans, including the majority of Democrats, do not think that transgender athletes should be allowed to participate in female sports.

“Thinking about Transgender female athletes – which means athletes who were male at birth but who currently identify themselves as a woman – do you think they should or should not be allowed to compete in female sports? “Asked the investigation.
Of the 2,128 people who participated, 79% said that biological men who identify themselves as women should not be allowed to participate in female sports.
Of the 1,025 people who have identified as a democrats or who lean a democrat, 67% said that transgender athletes should not be allowed to compete with women.
Other data suggest that the problem affected the outcome of the 2024 elections.
A National exit survey Directed by the Legislative Action Committee for women concerned for women for America (CWA) revealed that 70% of moderate voters saw the question of “Donald Trump’s opposition to boys and transgender men playing sports of girls and women and transgender boys and men using bathrooms for girls and women” as important for them.
And 6% said it was the most important question of all, while 44% said it was “very important”.
