Peshawar:

The High Court of Peshawar (PHC) issued opinions to provincial and federal governments on petitions deposited for recovery of 10 missing persons, asking for their response.

During the hearing, the acting chief judge Syed Muhammad Attic Shah, noted that the authorities submit reports to the court only indicating that the missing person is not under their care.

He underlined the need for complete reports, covering all aspects of the missing person and why individuals have disappeared.

The petitions were heard by a bench to a single member including the acting chief judge. At the start of the hearing, an additional defender general, the deputy prosecutor general Ubaidullah Anwar, and the focal person of the SP Kamal Hussain Tori police appeared before the court.

The acting chief judge interviewed the police focal for the growing number of missing persons.

In response, the focal person argued that many people had disappeared from themselves due to personal enmities, debts or escape arrest. For this, the chief judge noted that these people seem to be more qualified than the police, adding that the organizations responsible for the application of laws should know why a person had disappeared.

He also criticized the authorities for submitting vague reports which simply indicate that the missing person is not under their care.

He stressed that reports should be complete and cover all the relevant factors. In response, the additional defender general recognized the suggestion, agreeing that the home officers (SHO) should submit detailed reports on each missing person, including their character, their business and other relevant aspects.

The court has also been informed that some people disappear due to bankruptcy, while others simulate their disappearances. The bench issued opinions to provincial and federal governments, requesting an answer at the next hearing concerning the 10 cases of the missing person.
