PIMS makes history with Islamabad’s first robotic surgery

The operation was carried out using the state-of-the-art surgical robot “Tomai”, with the participation of experts from the United Kingdom.

The first robotic surgery in the history of Islamabad was successfully carried out at PIMS Hospital, where a patient underwent an advanced operation using modern robotic technology.

The operation was carried out using a state-of-the-art surgical robot “Tomai”, manufactured in China, with the participation of experts from the United Kingdom.

Director of Robotic Surgery Dr Mateen Sharif told the media that the mission was to introduce robotic surgery across Pakistan with the support of the government. “Robotic surgery allows patients to recover faster and ensures more accurate results,” he said.

PIMS Executive Director Dr Imran Sikandar added that many procedures are technically complex, while robotic assistance minimizes patient discomfort.

Doctors from the general surgery and urology departments also participated in the operation. Prof Shamim Khan, Prof Mateen Sharif and Dr Javed Barki supervised the procedure, while Dr Atif Inam Shami, Dr Burhanul Haq and Dr Khalid Saeed were part of the surgical team.
