Pindi in high alert in the middle of tensions with India

In the light of a potential conflict between Pakistan and India, the administration of the Rawalpindi district and the Ministry of Civil Defense have finalized measures to prepare for emergencies to cope with unforeseen emergencies. Sixteen emergency sirens installed across the city, including the central pilot mermaid at the Civil Defense Office, were fully activated and updated.

In addition, 38 rescue and surveillance control points are now operational 24/7.

These include 24 positions managed by the Department of Civil Defense and 14 by rescue 1122, all with staff.

Civil Defense also launched official training in combat rescue for its 3,500 volunteers and young people interested.

The training is provided at the Rawalpindi Cantt police station, at Mission Higher Second School in Raja Bazaar and at the Civil Defense Headquarters.

Another training center at the Superior Secondary School of Denny will be operational within 24 hours.

For the first time, women volunteers also receive training in combat rescue.

At the headquarters of the Civil Defense, they are trained to save injured citizens, evacuate citizens to burn or the collapse of buildings and extinguish fires. The training is provided daily.

Sources have indicated that the main mermaid points in the city – Kohinoor Mills, Railway Loco Shed, General Bus Stand Pirwadhai, Viqar -Unn -Nisa Postgraduate College, Ateliers 501 and 502, Adiala Prison, Gawalmandi, Chohar Chowk and Reta AMRAL – have been updated, cleaned and reactivated.

A new policy requires that in any emergency or test scenario, the central pilot siren of the Kacheri Civil Defense Bureau will sound first, followed by all the sirens in the region.

Staff from the checkpoint and volunteers are required to immediately present themselves in their designated posts when hear it from the sirens.

Civil Defense District Officer Talib Hussain told L’Express PK Press Club, whether in peace or in crisis, the ministry remains alert.

He said that under the strict supervision of assistant commissioner Hasan Waqar Cheema, all volunteers have been mobilized and undergo combat rescue exercises. The main instructors Nasir Kayani and Sadaf Zahoor direct practical sessions, while Halima Saadia leads women volunteers.

According to Hussain, civil defense preparations in Rawalpindi are over.

Fire control and rescue equipment have been activated, the leaves of the canceled staff and the 24th out of 24 tasks allocated.
