The 2025 Pittsburgh Pirates season left historically fragile.
The pirates started the season with a four game set against the Miami Marlins and finished with a 1-3 file. The total of the victories-defaits does not show how difficult these three defeats were.

In each of the three defeats of Pittsburgh, Miami gained fashionable. The Sunday’s match saw Marlins’s aerobatman, Griffin Conine, equalize the match with a solo home run in seventh round while Derek Hill marked the winning race on a wild step.
The pirates were the first team to lose their first three games via walk-offs since 1924, according to MLB.com, citing the Elias sports office. The last team to do so was the pirates of 1924, who won 90 games this season, then won the World Series in 1925.
“It’s difficult,” said Pirate Director Derek Shelton. “We have things to work on.”
On Thursday, the Marlins spoiled the opening day of the Marlins Paul Skenes when Nick Forbes tripled to start the ninth round. Xavier Edwards was intentionally walked and stole the second base. Kyle Stowers then placed the twinge runner Javier Sanoja and Miami won his first victory of the season.

On Saturday, Dane Myers led to Otto Lopez at the end of the 12th round. Myers also had a home run and threw Tommy Pham, who was trying to score for the pirates at the top of the 12th.
The pirate lift David Bednar was credited with two of these losses of departure.
“Log it and do the little things properly,” said the veteran from the pirate, Andrew McCutchen, to the journalists of the message in the locker room. “I will continue to knock on this because if you do not do it, this is the situation and that is what can happen.
“This is the result when you do not do the little things properly. Raise when you have to perform, do the things you need to do when you hit and go well. But when you don’t do that, you find yourself 1-3.”
The pirates are starting a three game set with the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday.

Miami has been the first team since 2003 to win their first three games with walk-offs. The Rays were 3-5 to start this season and finished 63-99 under Lou Piniella.
