- The Retro Classics collection is now available on Xbox, PC and Smart TV supported
- He came through a partnership between Xbox, Antsstream Arcade and Activision
- Over 50 games are available now, with more than 100 that should eventually arrive
Xbox has teamed up with Classic Game Service Antstream Arcade to bring to Xbox Game Pass subscribers the new Retro Classics collection.
Microsoft announced the partnership via an official Xbox Wire post, which is described as “a collaboration between Xbox and Antstream Arcade, available to play for Game Pass members on a global scale”.
The service is available now and only requires the standard Xbox – Ultimate game games subscription is not necessary. The Retro Classics collection is a separate application, available on Xbox Series X | S, PC, and can also be broadcast via Samsung and LG Smart supported televisions, Amazon Fire TV devices and Meta Quest VR headsets.
Initially, the Retro Classics library is home to more than 50 Retro Activision games. These include Pitfall, Dragster, Grand Prix, Kaboom!, Enduro And many others. Games also have their own sets of achievements, classification challenges and saving state support – a bit like the main angry arcade service.
“This initiative is a step in our commitment to preserving the game and descending compatibility, allowing players to live many timeless games on modern devices,” said Xbox Wire Post.
In addition, the Retro Classics collection should develop over time. The message claims that the launch “is only the start”. Finally, the service should reach more than 100 playable titles. If you do not have the money for some of the best retro game consoles, it could be a more affordable solution.
It is a fairly intelligent way to take advantage of a suite of classic games now made available to Microsoft via its Activision Blizzard buyout, and I have not really seen coming. The Arcade Service Antsstream itself is something I have personally enjoying, and it’s cool to see a similar service to the members of Xbox Game Pass on the console and the PC.
