Lahore:
In an open letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Civil Society, activists, including academics and journalists, asked for the release of leaders of the Baloch Yakjehti committee (BYC) imprisoned, Dr. Mahrang Baloch, Sammi Deen Baloch and others.
Most BYC leaders are being arrested and faced accusations ranging from the creation of the situation of public order to their involvement in terrorist activities.
“We, the undersigned citizens of Pakistan, invite you to take immediate measures to release the leader Mahrang Baloch, Sammi Baloch and other detained chiefs of the Baloch Yakjehti committee (BYC) before EID so that they can spend it with their loved ones”, read the letter.
“Their arrests are a blatant attempt to silence the voices pleading for the end of forced disappearances and fundamental rights and justice for the people of Balutchistan,” continued the letter.
The letter expressed its alarm in the face of the treatment of militant women from law enforcement organizations and denounces the deployment of “excessive force” against peaceful demonstrators.
