On Wednesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s desire to engage in a “significant dialogue” with India on all outstanding questions, calling for diplomacy to combat regional long -standing tensions, Radio Pakistan reported.

During a meeting with the British High Commissioner Jane Marriott, who called the Prime Minister on Wednesday in Islamabad, he stressed the importance of solving disputes by peaceful means and reiterated that Pakistan has remained attached to a constructive commitment with its neighbors.

Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed his satisfaction with the positive trajectory of Pakistani-UK relations and said that recent trade talks between the two countries were to offer mutually beneficial opportunities while noting that Pakistan and the United Kingdom closely cooperate the United Nations Security Council, where Pakistan is currently holding the monthly presidency.

The Prime Minister also welcomed the recent British government’s decision to take over Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights to and from the United Kingdom, saying that this decision would facilitate travel difficulties for the British Pakistan community and promote the exchanges of people to the population. He also appreciated the role of the High Commissioner in the facilitation of the decision.

He spoke of his warmth to King Charles III and the newly elected British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, adding that he was looking forward to meeting the British leaders later this year. Marriott, in turn, thanked the Prime Minister for the meeting and informed him of his recent visit to London, during which she held consultations on the progress of bilateral cooperation.

She congratulated the economic performance of the Pakistani government in the past year and a half under the supervision of Prime Minister Shehbaz, highlighting the improvements in the main macroeconomic indicators. The High Commissioner also shared the prospects of the United Kingdom on regional issues.

The tensions between Pakistan and India deteriorated following the pahalgam incident in Indian illegally occupied the Jammu and the cashmere (iiojk) in April, which cost the life of 26 people. New Delhi accused Islamabad to attack the attack, despite not providing proof.

Over a period of four days in May, fighter planes, missiles, drones and artillery were deployed in ferocious clashes. A ceasefire was finally announced on May 10-a development that the United States claimed to have negotiated, although India has publicly denied any third-party involvement.
