Islamabad:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to take strict measures against individuals and the sectors involved in tax evasion.
The Prime Minister, presiding over a review of the broadcasting of the tax base and the increase in tax revenue on Tuesday, said that individuals and sectors capable of paying taxes must be introduced into the tax net, said a press release issued by the PM office.
He also called for strict responsibility for officers and staff who help tax escapes. The Prime Minister praised the efforts of the government’s economic team for having progressed quickly to the achievement of the FBR income targets for the current financial year.
He reiterated that the expansion of the tax net is a higher priority of the government in order to reduce the tax burden on ordinary humans.
The Prime Minister ordered the FBR to finish digital surveillance in cement and other key sectors next month. He also asked for efforts to stimulate tax revenue from the tobacco sector to be accelerated in collaboration with the provinces.
He underlined the need for effective prosecution of cases of instructing tax to ensure the recovery of public funds. “By the grace of Allah, the national economy is stable and evolves towards growth,” he said.
During the briefing, it was revealed that the complete implementation of the track and trace system in the national cement factories had led to a significant increase in tax revenue.
With the implementation of this system in the sugar industry, tax revenues increased from 35% from November 2024 to April 2025. A tax revenue target equivalent to 10.6% of GDP will be achieved as a result of FBR reforms.
Federal ministers – Azam Nazeer Tarar, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Ahad Khan Cheema, Attaullah Tarar – the president of the FBR and the senior officials attended the meeting.
President of an exam meeting on the construction of 15 new Danish schools and the Danish University, Shehbaz also led accelerated work on educational establishments.
He declared that the creation of these institutions across the country, for the provision of quality education for deserving and brilliant students, was among the main priorities of the government.
The Prime Minister also asked for quality construction work and their third -party validation.
He ordered the competent authorities to install intelligent advice in all classrooms, establish digital libraries and guarantee a merit -based appointment process and transparent for teaching staff.
He said that local eligible populations should have priority during the appointment process and ordered that the proposals are subject to the creation of the Danish authority.
During the meeting, a briefing was given on Danish schools under construction and the Danish University of Islamabad. Forty -one percent work on a Danish school in Islamabad had been completed.
In Gilgit Baltistan, work on the Danish schools of Sultan Abad, Ghanche and Astore would be completed by June 30, 2026 while work on the schools of Bhimber and Bagh would also be completed in June 2026.
The feasibility and design of Danish schools in Sharda, Sibi, Musakhel and Zhob were completed. (With application input)
