PM is launching a new energy vehicle policy for climate resilience

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif officially launched the new Pakistan policy for energy vehicles for 2025-2030, aimed at promoting respectful and profitable transport in the country, Radio Pakistan reported.

Addressing the launch event, Sharif underlined the emphasis on the policy on the reduction of carbon emissions, the economy of billions of rupees abroad, the promotion of innovation and the empowerment of young people to conduct Pakistan in the greener future.

“Pakistan is one of the most vulnerable countries in terms of climate change, despite the phenomenon a little more,” he said, noting the growing frequency and intensity of climate-induced disasters such as sudden floods, clouds and lake’s ice floods. “With each passing year, these disasters cause more loss of life and goods,” he added.

Sharif has called for global support, urging developed countries, in particular in the West, to help to mitigate misery caused by climate change and to help vulnerable countries build resilient infrastructure.

The Special Assistant of the Prime Minister of Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan described the policy of electric vehicles as a plan for the Pakistan’s own transport revolution.

He noted that the country was going beyond the assembly of vehicles in the production of batteries, load equipment and advanced parts.

Khan also highlighted the financial advantages, declaring that Pakistan spends billions of dollars a year in oil imports and that urban air pollution costs the economy more than 105 billion rupes of productivity and health care loss.

He stressed that the management of an electric motorcycle is less than a third of the cost of petrol per kilometer today.

Policy, which includes financing reforms, toll exemptions and free recording, aims to make electric mobility accessible to all, including households, riders, carriers and businesses.

During the ceremony, the Prime Minister also distributed free electric bikes to the best performing students in the initiative.
