PM is looking for non -climate change help

Friday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif underlined the need to further strengthen collaboration with the United Nations in the fields of sustainable development and climate change.

He reaffirmed the strong political commitment of Pakistan to advance the objective of fighting climate change in close collaboration and in partnership with the international community and the UN.

The Prime Minister discussed the UN resident coordinator in Pakistan, Mohamed Yahya, who paid a courtesy call.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister appreciated the important work carried out by the United Nations team in Pakistan. He spoke of his warm greetings for the Secretary General of the UN Antonio Guterres, while emotionally recalling his solid leadership in the galvanization of global support in Pakistan during the 2022 floods.

The role of IFC

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Makhtar Diop, Managing Director and Executive Vice-President of International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector investment branch of the World Bank (WBG), to discuss the portfolio in IFC lessons and pipelines in Pakistan.

He appreciated the framework (CPF) of the new Country Partnership Framework (CPF) of WBG (2026-2035) with his unprecedented commitment of $ 40 billion. It would include sovereign loans of $ 20 billion by the International Development Association (IDA) and International Bank for Reconstruction & Development (CBRD). IFC will mobilize an additional $ 20 billion to promote private sector investments in Pakistan.

The Prime Minister welcomed the role of IFC in the promotion of private sector investments and the expansion of the portfolio in Pakistan.
