  • Calls for technological innovation in governance.

In his message from the day of parliamentarism, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged the nation to strengthen parliamentary institutions, maintain democratic values and guarantee that the votes of citizens are reflected in legislation.

“The International Day of Parliamentarism, observed each year on June 30, reaffirms our global commitment to strengthen democratic institutions,” noted the Prime Minister in his message.

“The day also celebrates the vital role of parliaments in the promotion of inclusive governance, to ensure a significant representation of women and young people and the adoption of technological innovation in legislative practices.

“Our parliament occupies a central place in our democratic framework. By its legislative authority and the vigilant work of its permanent committees, Parliament ensures responsibility, transparency and monitoring of the executive.

“The constitution of Pakistan devotes the representation of women through seats reserved in the context of articles 51 and 59. Our parliamentary women have also reached management positions: currently, eight women senators and four women members of the National Assembly serve as presidents of parliamentary committees, he pointed out.

The Prime Minister said: “Parliament has also remained proactive in the promulgation of progressive legislation, in particular to advance gender equality and social protection.”

“The inclusiveness has also guided our approach to governance. While preparing the federal budget for the 2025-20126 financial year, the government has actively consulted the partners of the coalition and praised the contributions of the whole political spectrum. This inclusive spirit is the foundation of a healthy democracy,” he continued.

“Our parliamentarians continue to play a dynamic role in global parliamentary diplomacy. Thanks to a supported commitment with platforms such as the Inter-Parle Union (IPU), our representatives have argued for peace, development and international cooperation. ”

“After recent tensions in South Asia, the Pakistan Multipartite Parliamentary Delegation has actually projected our point of view on global forums thanks to diplomatic awareness.

“Recognizing the evolutionary needs of modern governance, we have also adopted technology to improve parliamentary transparency and accessibility.

“While we are marking this important day, we renew our determination to strengthen parliamentary institutions, to protect democratic values and to ensure that the voices of citizens are really reflected in the process of realization,” he concluded.
