PM promises to reduce electricity prices for households and industries

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed his commitment to reducing electricity prices for consumers and domestic industries thanks to reforms in the power sector.

President of a high -level meeting on the implementation of power sector reforms, he ordered managers to complete all the reforms and initiatives provided for within the stipulated time.

During the meeting in Islamabad, a briefing was provided on the three -year objectives for reforms in the power sector. Officials informed that due to the current reforms and an anti-theft campaign, the recovery rate of distribution companies had improved 93.26% by December 2024.

Prime Minister Shehbaz underlined the positive results of the reforms, declaring that ineffectiveness of several decades in the power sector were addressed thanks to coordinated efforts between the ministry and the relevant institutions.

He stressed that the government remains determined to provide low -cost electricity and environmentally friendly to the public, adding that the renegotiation of agreements with independent electricity producers (PPI) has led to financial savings for the national treasury and A reduction in electricity prices.

He praised the anti-power flight campaign, noting that the reduction in losses suffered by distribution companies was an important achievement and a testimony of the dedication of the Ministry of Energy and the Support Agencies.

He ordered that the repression of the power flight is intensified to achieve a 100% reduction in losses in all distribution companies.

The PM also declared that the appointment of private sector professionals renowned to the boards of directors of distribution companies gave positive results. He asked that similar appointments be made in companies where the advice has not yet been trained.

In addition, he stressed that the reduction in transmission losses was a direct result of the current reforms and reiterated its commitment to further reduce prices for households and industries.

Reunion also included a complete briefing on the performance of the energy sector, describing the strategies for the progressive reduction of circular debt, the establishment of competitive electricity markets and the roadmap for prices.

Progress on the main transmission line projects, including the Matiari-Moro-Rahim Yar Khan and Ghazi Brotha-Faisalabad transmission lines of 500 KV, have also been examined.

Officials have provided updates to the dissolution of the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) and the creation of a new entity, the Société de Développement and Management of Energy Infrastructure (EIDMC).

Prime Minister Shehbaz has asked the authorities to provide a timely completion of all reforms and projects to improve efficiency and sustainability in the electricity sector.
