PM restores the tribal quota in universities

Islamabad:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif assured Thursday that the federal government took all possible measures for the economic development of merged districts and the well-being of its people.

He spoke of a delegation of former tribal tribal districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa led by the president of Jamiat Ulema-E-Islam (JUI-F), Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who visited the Prime Minister’s house.

The Jirga discussed in detail about the improvement of public order in the merged districts and the construction and development of these areas.

While welcoming the delegation, the Prime Minister announced the restoration of the quota of district merged in the colleges of medicine and engineering universities.

The former tribal people welcomed the decision, expressing happiness on the restoration of the quota.

The Prime Minister said: “I am very happy to welcome the former tribal of the Prime Minister’s house today.”

During the conversation with the delegation, he said: “You belong to the Pakistan regions which are the guards of the glorious heritage and historical traditions.”

“The tribes have always made immense sacrifices for the security and peace of Pakistan,” he said, “the creation of the law and the order in the merged districts is the absolute priority of the government.”

He said the Pakistan security forces, police and the police adopted martyrdom while courageously fighting the terrorists.

He urged that the leaders of all schools of thought should play their role together to make Pakistan a cradle of peace.

“Offering equal and better opportunities for education, health, skills and employment to the inhabitants of tribal district merged, in particular young people, is our priority,” he said.

He said that “the federal government has allocated a huge amount in this year’s development budget for the improvement of Fata University and police infrastructure in the merged districts”.

He ordered the scope of the committee established under the chairmanship of the Federal Minister for Cashmere, Gilgit-Baltistan and the engineer of the border regions Amir Muqam on the issues of the merged districts.

“The ancient tribals of the merged districts are also represented in this committee,” he noted.

The delegation expressed its gratitude for having expanded the scope of the committee, offering a representation to the former tribal and for the restoration of district quotas merged in the colleges of medicine and engineering universities.

The delegation paid tribute to the courageous strategy of the Pakistani army during the recent Pakistani-Indian conflict and for having given an appropriate response to the Indian aggression.

The delegation thanked the Prime Minister for the consultative session concerning peace and order, development and prosperity in the merged districts.

The Prime Minister said that more advisory sessions will be held with former tribal for the improvement of merged tribal districts.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met the regional vice-president of the World Bank for the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan (MENAAP) Ousmane Dione on Thursday, where they have expressed a common commitment to further strengthen cooperation in the coming years to achieve long-term development objectives and to build a prosperous future for the Pakistan people.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister particularly thanked the president of the World Bank Ajay Banga and the former national director of Pakistan Najy Benhassine for their central role in the advancement of the new country partnership framework (CPF) for Pakistan.

He appreciated the strategic role of the CPF in supporting the development of Pakistan development, in particular in the fields of energy, human capital, climate change and governance reforms.

He also recognized the support of the world’s principles to Pakistan’s legitimate position in the light of India’s unilateral and illegal actions undergoing significant international agreements such as the Industry Water Treaty.

The Prime Minister has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to maintain international law, achieve prosperity and maintain regional peace, and reiterated the country’s determination to resolve all questions through dialogue.

The Prime Minister thanked the World Bank for its opportune and generous help during the devastating floods of 2022, which helped Pakistan launch immediate rescue efforts and start reconstruction and rehabilitation activities.

Ousmane Dione expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the warm hospitality extended during his visit to Pakistan.

It has reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to deepen and extend its long -standing partnership with Pakistan and to improve collaboration in the key sectors of the economy.

Dione appreciated the macroeconomic takeover of Pakistan and praised the Prime Minister’s government to lead the country towards financial stability and sustainable growth.

He particularly congratulated the reform program for the current administration, noting the solid leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the progress of institutional reforms, the restoration of investor confidence and the promotion of inclusive economic development.

Arizona State University

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the government’s commitment to Pakistan’s education sector on Thursday by integrating advanced technology and global partnerships with the support of Arizona State University.

At a high -level meeting with a delegation from the Arizona State University (ASU) delegation led by Doug Becker, founder and president of Cintana Education held at the Prime Minister’s office, Prime Minister Shehbaz stressed that the alignment of the Pakistan education system with international standards was a higher priority of the government.

The Prime Minister underlined the need to modernize education and equip young people in the country with essential professional and technical skills to participate in the global markets.

“All government education policies are focused on creating employment possibilities for young people according to their professional capacities,” said the Prime Minister.

He praised the collaboration with the Arizona State University as a transformer stage, in particular the creation of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Pakistan. “This partnership is an important step. The NIT will serve as a world class institution which trains young Pakistani people to compete worldwide,” he said.

The Prime Minister noted that the government had undertaken key reforms of the National Professional and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) in the past year, making it a more efficient and effective institution.

He ordered that Navttc should now work closely with ASU to provide innovation to the vocational training sector.

Discussions at the meeting focused on operating the nit, which is starting to start this year. Doug Becker ensured the full support of the ASU by providing resources and facilities to advance innovation in the education system of Pakistan.

At the end of the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif unveiled a commemorative plaque marking the operational launch of the National Institute of Technology.

The meeting was also followed by the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahsan Iqbal, the Federal Minister of Education Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, the Federal Minister of Computer Science Shaza Fatima Khawaja and senior officials of the relevant institutions.
