PM Shehbaz meets the Iranian ambassador, reaffirms the support of Pakistan in the middle of the Israeli assault

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated the strong conviction by Pakistan of the recent Israeli aggression against Iran and expressed his solidarity to the Iranian people and the government in the midst of increased tensions in the region.

The PM made these comments at a meeting with the Iranian ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam on the sidelines of the Maritime Expo and the conference in Islamabad on Monday. “All the sympathies of the Pakistani nation are with Iran on the martyrdom of the innocents,” he said.

He referred to his recent telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, during which Pakistan reaffirmed its support for Iran to the United Nations Security Council. Sharif stressed that Israel’s attacks on Iran are a blatant violation of the Charter of the United Nations and international law.

The Prime Minister also stressed that Pakistan would continue to stand next to Iran in the face of Israeli assault and to maintain its commitment to support Iran’s sovereignty on the world scene.

Earlier, speaking during the gentle launch of the 2nd Maritime International Pakistan Expo and Conference (Pimec 2025), the PM described its vision of the transformation of Pakistan into a regional maritime power.

“It is a great pleasure to see the Pakistani navy, under the patronage of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and in collaboration with key partners, organizing the second edition of Pimec,” said the Prime Minister.

He praised the leadership of the chief of the naval navy, Admiral Naved Ashraf and the Minister of Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry for their strategic foresight and their commitment to advance the event.

In his speech, Sharif underlined the central role of the Pakistani navy in national defense and regional security, noting: “The Pakistani navy was a formidable force through all conflicts and remains a strong pillar of our national security”.

The PM also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to international peace and maritime law, citing the Aman exercise, which involved more than 50 countries, as a symbol of the Pakistan cooperative maritime posture.

With more than 1,000 kilometers from coastal and strategic positioning along the vital seaways, Sharif said that Pakistan was only positioned to draw from the global blue economy of the Trillion.

“Even pressing a fraction of this economy could change the situation,” he said, adding, “our coastal trade already reports nearly $ 7 billion a year, and simply imagine the potential if we fully develop this sector.”

The PM was inspired by world success stories, especially Japan, which, despite limited maritime resources, has become a world leader in marine infrastructure and regional trade. “That there is open competition,” he said, stressing the importance of resilience, innovation and strategic investments.

Sharif concluded by highlighting the need to transform the Pakistani maritime sector into an inclusive and sustainable economic growth engine. He called for greater synergy between the public and private sectors, saying: “The time has come to take the lead.”
