Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met the president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Nawaz Sharif on Sunday to deliberate on the main national issues, including the country’s economic challenges and the increase in tensions with India.
The meeting took place at the Sharif family residence in Jati Umra, Raiwind, according to party sources cited by News.
The leaders would have evaluated the current political landscape and the implications of regional developments, in particular the fallout from a deadly attack at IIOJK and the subsequent diplomatic strain.
Pahalgam attack and diplomatic consequences
On April 22, 26 people were killed during an attack on a tourist site in Pahalgam, located in the Jammu and the cashmere occupied by illegally, (iiojk). India has accused Pakistan of participating without presenting evidence – an Islamabad affirmation has firmly denied.
The Indian government has responded by announcing several measures, including the closure of the Wagah-Attari border crossing, the publication of travel opinions against Pakistan and the suspension of the Industry Water Treaty.
In retaliation, the Pakistan National Security Committee warned that any disturbance in water flow would be considered an act of war. The Pakistan Senate also adopted a resolution rejecting the allegations of India.
