Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday expressed satisfaction over the progress of negotiations between the United States and Iran, saying Pakistan was making all efforts to resolve the dispute.

Addressing the federal cabinet, the prime minister said Pakistani leaders had fully contributed to peace and mediation, noting that the top leaders of the United States and Iran had come to the negotiating table after 47 years.

“Our sincere efforts have resulted in a ceasefire between the United States and Iran,” he said, adding that the ceasefire remains in effect.

Prime Minister Shehbaz praised the efforts of Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Asim Munir for their role in facilitating dialogue between Iran and the United States.

He further said he was aware of key details of the negotiations, noting that the process had at times been on the verge of collapse.

“The fact that Pakistan played a mediating role between the two countries is a matter of pride for the nation,” the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister added that world leaders had appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting peace, noting that the Prime Minister of Japan had also praised the country’s efforts.

Earlier, during the cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister briefed the members about his upcoming visit to Saudi Arabia and his recent contacts with friendly countries. The visit is expected to include discussions on developments in the Middle East and progress in Iran-US talks.

Nearly 24-hour negotiations between the United States and Iran concluded in Islamabad on Sunday, with both sides deepening their core demands while leaving the door open for new commitments.

The talks, which began Saturday afternoon, initially took place indirectly before morphing into a rare face-to-face engagement. Negotiations continued late into the night and into Sunday morning, highlighting both the complexity of the issues and the seriousness of the efforts being made.

For Pakistan, hosting these negotiations was both a diplomatic gamble and an opportunity to reaffirm its relevance on the world stage. In a televised statement after the talks, Dar thanked both sides for responding to Islamabad’s call for a ceasefire and agreeing to negotiations.
