Islamabad:
Friday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Dr. Fouzia Siddiqui, Sister of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, and assured that the government would continue to provide possible legal and diplomatic support for Dr Aafia Siddiqui.
The meeting intervened while the High Court of Islamabad (CIH) issued opinions to the Prime Minister and other members of the Federal Cabinet last week for not having submitted an answer in the case of Dr Aafia Siddiqui.
Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, a neuroscientist and educator, was found guilty by the United States District Court for the South New York district for attempted US staff in Afghanistan and purges his sentence to the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Carswell in the United States since 2010.
On July 12, the IHC expressed its dissatisfaction across the federal government in submitting a report in the case concerning the release, health and repatriation of Aafia, judge Sardar Ejaz Ishaq threatening to “convene the entire cabinet” if the report is not presented.
Judge Ishaq declared in his order of the court that he had warned that the additional prosecutor by adopting his previous decision according to which a new inaction on the part of the government would lead to the issuance of an Outline.
“The government appealed to the Supreme Court against my previous decision authorizing the changes to the request to continue this case,” said the order. “For any reason, the government was not taken up by the Supreme Court.”
The Prime Minister at the meeting said that the government was in no way negligent with regard to the case of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.
The government previously provided diplomatic and legal assistance in the case of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, a press release published by the PM office.
In addition, the Prime Minister did not only write a letter to the American president Joe Biden, but also trained a committee led by the Federal Minister of Law and Justice, Azam Nazeer Tarar, to ensure new progress in the issue.
The Committee will remain in contact with Dr. Fouzia Siddiqui and will work to provide the necessary support in this regard, added the press release.
