PM warns FBR officials against false tax declarations

ISLAMABAD:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday directed relevant authorities to expedite legal steps taken by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to ensure speedy conclusion of pending tax revenue cases.

Chairing a review meeting on expediting legal matters of the FBR, the Prime Minister directed to engage the services of reputed lawyers to represent the FBR in tax revenue cases.

The Prime Minister pledged that officers involved in whistleblowing based on weak or wrong motives would be punished.

On the other hand, he said that officers who have compiled records on merit, with honesty and hard work, will be rewarded with special incentives.

It was informed in the meeting that following the instructions of the Prime Minister, reputed lawyers were included in the panel and as a result, from July to December 2024, 586 cases were resolved in the High Court and 637 cases in courses were resolved in the Supreme Court. .

The meeting was also informed that currently, 33,522 cases involving Rs 4.7 trillion were pending in various courts and tribunals across the country.

It was informed in the meeting that a dispute management dashboard for higher courts had been developed in the FBR.
