Karachi:
A low-pressure meteorological system formed above the center-war is approximately 1,075 kilometers south-east of Karachi which could intensify in a deep depression or even a cyclonic storm by the weekend, the Pakistani meteorological department (PMD) said on Thursday.
The PMD said the meteorological system was located southeast of Karachi and headed north.
He added that at present, there was no threat to the coastal areas of Pakistan, but the system was closely monitored by the Cyclone Warning Center (CWC).
Meteorologists have said that hot sea surface temperatures fed the growth of the system.
This could evolve towards a depression within the next 36 hours and if favorable conditions persisted, it could be more strengthened in a deep depression or even a cyclonic storm by May 24 or 25, they added.
