The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a national alert, because heavy monsoon rains are expected to strike various regions of the country this evening and Monday, which raises concerns concerning sudden floods, landslides and urban floods.
According to the PMD, strong monsoon currents from the Oman Sea and the Bay of Bengal, as well as a West wave, are likely to affect the upper and central parts of the country.
Consequently, strong precipitation is planned in Murriere, Galliyat, Manshra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buniner, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Islamabad / Rawalpindi, Northeastern Punjab, Hill Torrents by Dera Ghazi and Balochist.
The department has warned that intense precipitation can cause sudden floods in local streams and nulls, especially in hilly areas.
Land landslides and mud shifts could cause road closings in vulnerable regions, including Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Murriyat, Galliyat and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Urban floods are also probably in the low areas of major cities such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Siackot, Sargodha, Faithbad, Nowshera and Peshawar.
Strong wind storms can damage the electric lines, trees, vehicles and solar panels.
Today, hot and humid conditions are planned in most of the country, with isolated thunderstorms in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, northeast of Baloutchan and south of Punjab.
Monday, rain with wind storms and thunderstorms is expected in the dispersed areas of Punjab, Sindh, Balutchistan, Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Authorities have advised residents of high risk zones to take precautions and avoid unnecessary trips during the forecast period.
