PMD provides rain, thunderstorms through northern Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has planned generalized rains, thunderstorms, strong winds and snowfall in the regions of the northern country in the next 24 hours, warning of sudden floods and damage to low facilities.

According to the PMD, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad and Punjab should be struck by burst winds, dust storms, thunderstorms and rains, while mountainous areas can receive snowfall.

Officials have warned that heavy showers could trigger sudden floods in streams fed in the rain and nulls in districts such as Dir, Swat, Shangla, Biner, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad, Islamabad, Islamabad Rawalpindi and parties of Kashmir.

The Met Office has also warned that stormy conditions – influenced by hailstorms, lightning and strong winds – can disrupt daily life and present risks to vulnerable infrastructures such as mud houses, walls, electric posts, display panels, solar panels and vehicles. Travelers and tourists are advised to carefully plan their trips according to the dominant conditions.

Islamabad and the adjacent areas are likely to attend a cloudy sky with rain, thunderstorms and gusts. Certain areas may feel strong showers and hail.

In KP, widespread rains and thunderstorms are expected in districts such as Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Batagram, Manshra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Waziristan and Kurram. Strong precipitation and hail can also strike in certain regions.

Most of the Sindh should remain hot and dry, although Umerkot, Tharparkar and certain coastal areas can see a partially cloudy sky, light rains and thunderstorms. In Balutchistan, weather conditions should remain dry and warm, with the exception of partially cloudy conditions along the coast.

Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan should also receive rains, thunderstorms and strong winds, with chances of heavy rain and hail in certain areas.

In the past 24 hours, Punjab, KP, Gilgit-Baltistan and cashmere have witnessed precipitation with thunderstorms and strong winds, while strong showers have been reported in certain districts. The rest of the country has remained largely hot and dry.

The PMD urged citizens to remain vigilant, to follow the weather opinions and to take the necessary precautions under the unstable conditions in progress.
