PMD warns against heavy rains across the country

Islamabad:

On Sunday, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a national warning of strong precipitation in several districts of Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Balutchistan, potentially triggering sudden floods, landslides and urban floods.

According to the latest opinion, intense showers can cause floods in streams and nuns in areas such as Murrier, Galyat, Manshra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buniner, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Islamabad / Rawalpindi, Dera Ghazi Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan Northeastern Punkab, Balochistan.

Heavy showers could also trigger landslides in hilly regions such as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murrier, Galyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, potentially disturbing the routes of transport and access.

The PMD has also warned that the low urban areas in Islamabad / Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Siackot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera and Peshawar can experience urban floods.

Residents were invited to take precautions and avoid unnecessary exposure.

Strong winds accompanying rain can damage lower infrastructure, including electric posts, trees, vehicles and solar panels.

The PMD noted that strong currents of monsoon from the Sea of Oman and the Bay of Bengal, combined with a West wave, are likely to affect the upper and central parts of the country on Sunday and Monday.

In a related development, the NDMA technical team official and the spokesperson for Dr Tayyab Shah also published a public opinion urging citizens to avoid crossing bridges, streams or flooded roads during high speed periods.

Addressing a local news channel, he called for increased inter -construction cooperation to provide an effective emergency response.
