PMD warns against the heavy monsoon rains in Karachi and Sindh

A newly developed monsoon system has started to have an impact on Karachi during the weekend, with light to moderate rains reported in several suburban areas, while the Pakistan meteorological department (PMD) provides for distribution and thunderstorms through the Sindh between August 17 and 19.

While the sky remained mainly clear and humid on Sunday, light to moderate showers were reported in key localities, notably Surjani Town, New Karachi and Gulshan-E-Maymar.

According to the PMD early alert center, tomorrow (Monday) can see moderate rain with thunder and lightning, while Tuesday is likely to bring several heavy showers.

“Strong monsoon currents enter most parts of the Sindh, guaranteeing generalized rain and thunderstorms with moderate to very heavy precipitation,” said the opinion.

A detailed opinion indicates that Naushahro Feroze, Dadu, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Tharparkar and Karachi are the most likely to receive light intermittent rain in Lourdes until August 19.

Additional rain and Thundershower activities are expected in Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Larkana, Qambar Shahdadkot, Ghotki, Sukkur and Kashmore.

Residents were warned of the potential disturbances of urban floods, the creation of water in low zones and damage to vulnerable infrastructures such as mud houses, display panels, electric posts, vehicles and solar panels.

Local farmers are advised to plan their operations according to forecasts, and the authorities have been invited to remain vigilant and take the necessary precautionary measures
