Minister of State for Law and Justice Barrister Aqeel Malik on Monday said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) never sidelined former three-time Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, adding that all decisions were taken in consultation with him.

Speaking on PK Press Club News On the “Capital Talk” show, Malik said the PML-N believed in public service politics, highlighting its achievements such as building the highway network and transforming the country into a nuclear state.

The minister said that the PML-N has never compromised the dignity and integrity of the country.

Taking a dig at the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Malik said, “It’s not May 9, it’s May 28.” On May 28, 1998, Pakistan became an atomic power after carrying out six nuclear tests in Chagai, Balochistan.

Pakistan joined the ranks of nuclear powers during the tenure of Prime Minister Nawaz.

Launching a fresh salvo against the PTI, the minister said Nawaz never acted against the country or national interests and asked if he had ever written to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

In February last year, PTI founder Imran Khan revealed that he had written to the IMF to request an audit of the election results before any new loans for Islamabad were approved – a move widely criticized by the ruling coalition.

The minister said: “Nations do not progress on the basis of slogans, demands or speeches.”

He said there was no democracy in the party founded by Khan, adding that more than half of the PTI members were demanding a solution.

On the issue of governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the minister termed it a “constitutional process” but highly undesirable.

The federal government is seriously considering imposing governor’s rule in KP, he added.

Speaking on the same show, PTI Chief Whip in the National Assembly Amir Dogar said: “Where do we go when there is so much oppression?

He argued that Parliament had been turned into a “sunset” and that leaders had failed to deliver on their promises. “When mandates are stolen and public opinion is oppressed, the country cannot progress,” he added.
