Rawalpindi:

A political showdown broke out between two PML-N leaders in Rawalpindi on the long-standing presidency of the Zakat district council. The position has remained unparalified in the past two years, blocking the distribution of Zakat funds to beneficiaries.

The member of the National Assembly Malik Abrar Ahmed makes lobbying to appoint Malik Imran as president, while the federal minister of railways Hanif Abbasi made for Raja Jibran Rafaqat. In addition to these two frontrunners, three other PML-N candidates are also in the running for the position.

According to sources from the department of Zakat, the names of Malik Imran and Raja Jibran Rafaqat were preselected and sent to the Punjab government for final approval. The appointment should be made shortly after Eid.

Due to the prolonged vacancy, the distribution of Zakat funds has been stopped for two years, leaving thousands of beneficiaries without financial assistance.
