Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) announced on Saturday that they would dispute the next partial elections under a joint strategy, agreeing not to present candidates against each other.
The announcement occurred after a meeting held at the residence of the senior PPP and former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf. The PML-N delegation included Federal Minister Hanif Abbasi and Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, while the PPP was represented by former Prime Minister Ashraf and Nayyar Hussain Bukhari.
During a joint press conference following the meeting, the two parties confirmed that they would cooperate in the by -elections, on the basis of a seats adjustment formula towards the constituency.

“Our leadership ordered us to work together for these by -elections,” Raja Pervez Ashraf told journalists. “The agreement is that the party was the finalist of a particular constituency during the general elections will obtain the support of the other.”
Hanif Abbasi echoed the message of unity and reiterated the strength of the alliance. “We are coalition partners in the National Assembly, the Senate and the provincial legislatures. This partnership will now extend to the corridors. Together, we will win the victory, “he said.
By reaffirming their commitment, the leaders noted that the by -elections were challenged under the same understanding. “We have already challenged the by -elections under this formula and will continue to do so,” said Abbasi.
The agreement comes after several cycles of talks between PPP and PML-N leaders in recent months. The two parties worked to ensure smoother power arrangements in Punjab and to maintain political stability at the national level.
Earlier, the president of the PPP, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, had met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to express the reserves of his party. After the meeting, the Prime Minister assured the PPP to respond to his concerns and promised continuous cooperation.
The PPP, in return, reaffirmed its full support for the government’s economic renaissance plans under the leadership of the Prime Minister.
