Police arrest man after obscene video broadcast on digital screens at DHA in Karachi

Police have registered a criminal case and arrested a suspect after an obscene video was broadcast on digital advertising screens at Defense Housing Authority (DHA) in Karachi on Thursday.

Southern Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Asad Raza, speaking to PK Press Club Expresssaid that during the investigation, police arrested an employee of the company who said that “another video already stored on his cell phone was mistakenly broadcast on the SMD screens.”

“The suspect further told investigators that the videos sent by the company for advertising purposes were saved on his mobile phone,” Raza said, adding that the interrogation of the arrested suspect was continuing.

The case was registered at Gizri police station under section 292 (sale of obscene books) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the company’s legal advisor Shakir Ali.

The complaint said that an inappropriate video was shown on a digital screen installed on a pole near the Ayesha Manzil signal in Khayaban-e-Ittehad.

According to the first information report, the company’s operations manager informed Ali by phone at 9:37 a.m. Wednesday that an obscene video was playing on the screen. The complainant stated that he went to the scene himself and had the screen turned off.

The complaint added that company management suspected that one or more employees had gained unauthorized access to the system and distributed the video with the intent to defame the company.

Earlier, residents staged protests after an obscene video was shown on screens. Authorities said that as a precautionary measure, digital screens installed on other main roads of the DHA, as well as Shahrah-e-Faisal and Karsaz Road, had been temporarily closed.
