Police sources said the exchange of fire between the attackers and security forces continued until the report was filed.
DI KHAN/PESHAWAR:
A police convoy was attacked in Hangu district on Sunday, injuring three policemen, including the station house officer (SHO).
Separately, explosions allegedly triggered by a short circuit at a police station in Peshawar reportedly led to the death of a police officer.
Official sources said a convoy carrying SP Investigation Abdul Samad, DSP Tall Mujahid and SHO Imran Uddin was returning from Karbogha after attending a meeting with a peace committee when it was ambushed by an improvised explosive device (IED) on the Doaba-Karbogha road in Hangu.
According to SP Abdul Samad, the blast injured SHO Imran Uddin, constable Abid and constable Jihad. The injured were immediately transferred to Doaba Hospital for treatment amid firing from the terrorists. Police sources said an exchange of fire between the attackers and security forces continued till the report was filed.
Meanwhile, a fire broke out after blasts at a Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) police station in Peshawar, leading to the martyrdom of a policeman. Two other police officers were also injured. The incident took place at the CTD office near the Christian cemetery on University Road.
Speaking to the media, Dr Mian Saeed of CCPO Peshawar said that the fire was caused by a short circuit.
According to the official, explosive materials stored in the station courtyard caught fire and triggered multiple explosions, destroying part of the building. “CTD officer Bilal Durani was martyred, while two others were injured in the blasts,” he said.
Rescue and police teams quickly arrived at the scene and began rescue operations. The explosions, however, caused serious damage to the building. Rescuers were later able to put out the fire, but most of the station’s archives and equipment were destroyed.
The CCPO said that the detainees of the police station were transferred to another police station and an investigation was launched from several angles. “KP IGP Zulfiqar Hameed has ordered a formal investigation, directing those responsible to submit a report within five days,” he added.
Later, the funeral prayer of martyred CTD officer Bilal Khan was held in Malik Saad Shaheed police lines with full state honors.
The ceremony was attended by KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, IGP Zulfiqar Hameed, Additional CTD IG Jawad Qamar, CCPO Dr Mian Saeed Ahmed, Pakistan Army officers, police personnel and family members of the martyr.
A contingent of police officers in attendance presented a guard of honor, while the governor, police and army officials placed wreaths on the coffin. They offered prayers for the martyr’s high rank and for the strength of his bereaved family.
