PESHAWAR:

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police repelled coordinated terror attacks on Baka Khel police station and Fatah Khel check post on Tuesday morning, killing one attacker in a subsequent search operation, officials said.

According to police, the terrorists launched these attacks during sehri hours, using small arms, heavy weapons and sniper rifles. Security personnel immediately responded, engaging in intense exchanges of fire that lasted about 45 minutes in Baka Khel and about an hour in Fatah Khel, forcing the attackers to retreat.

“Both attacks were foiled thanks to the rapid and robust police response,” a spokesperson said.

During the ensuing search operations, a terrorist was killed and authorities recovered a Kalashnikov, hand grenades and a walkie-talkie. Initial reports suggest other attackers may have been injured.

Security has since been tightened in the area, while search and clearance operations continue, with police and security forces on high alert.

He added: “We will spare no effort and sacrifice to protect the lives and property of citizens, and operations against hostile elements will continue uninterrupted. »

KP Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Rahim also praised the dedication and courage of the officers, announcing cash awards and commendation certificates. He said the police’s quick and decisive action had thwarted the terrorists’ plans.

Officials said another late-night attempt to target the Fatah Khel checkpoint on Monday was also repulsed.

In Peshawar, police foiled another attempted attack on a checkpoint the same day. According to the Warsak Police Commissioner, the terrorists attempted to target the Sakhi Pul checkpoint from the Khyber tribal district.

“Staff were alert and the attack was foiled thanks to a quick response,” he said.
