Police stop a Liverpool fan for alleged racial abuse of Antoine Semenyo

“The identity of the suspect was confirmed and he was withdrawn from the field following the report,” the statement said. According to the police, the man was interviewed in police custody.

The incident occurred in the first half at the 28-minute brand when Semenyo, which is black, was preparing to take a corner. After talking with the referee, Semenyo ran to speak with the two coaches and the two team captains.

Semenyo published a declaration on social networks on Saturday by thanking football fans, teammates, opponents and officials for their support.

“Last night in Anfield, will remain with me forever – not because of the words of a person, but because of the way the whole football family was held together,” started their post. “To my teammates @AFCB who supported me at that time, to the players and fans of @liverpoolfc who showed their real character, to the managers of @PREMIERLEAGUE who manipulated it professionally – thank you. The Premier League has announced in a separate declaration that it would investigate the incident and “will offer our full support to the player and the two clubs”.
